I am a former senior schoolteacher who retrained and registered as a psychologist thirteen years ago. I have a particular interest in how people manage serious life challenges. My Doctoral Thesis focused on exploring the processes people use to navigate adversity with meaning and purpose. I enjoy working with my clients to help them find their own voice, so that they can discover their own courage and resilience and thus facilitate their own growth.
B.A (Hons), DPsych (Counselling)

Dr Miriam Grossbaum
All of us have had challenging experiences of one sort or another. We may have suffered grief and loss, or trauma or we may have experienced transitions. We usually manage to find ways to get through these experiences. And yet sometimes we can be left feeling anxious, or discover we are asking too much of ourselves, our partners and families, or our workplace. When that happens, it can be useful to seek the help of a professional to ease the burden.
I believe that the qualities of openness, warmth, compassion and careful listening form the basis of a good therapeutic relationship. I am committed to walking alongside my clients to help them discover fresh perspectives on their experience. This might enable my clients to consider new attitudes or make some different choices. Whilst I work with adults of all ages, I have a particular interest in working with midlife and older adults to help them navigate competing demands and the changes in roles and relationships which occur at this time of life.

Referrals and Mental Health Plans
As a Medicare registered psychologist, I accept referrals from General Practitioners under Mental Health Treatment Plans. After meeting with a client for an initial assessment, I provide a letter to the referring doctor summarising my initial thoughts and treatment suggestions.
I offer Telehealth consultations in specific situations. I believe, however that face-to-face work is extremely valuable.
For further information about referrals, please contact me to discuss.
